Holiday Organic is a woman-owned, vegan-friendly skin spa in Brookline’s Harvard Square. As you enter Holiday’s treatment room you’re greeted by natural light shining through decorative window prisms casting rainbows across the floor and many plants that decorate the walls and shelves. It’s obvious how much intention Catherine Richardson (she/her) put into crafting a physical space and service menu that is instantly welcoming and comforting. Named for her love of holidays, Catherine’s goal was to give each client a “freakin vacation” each time they lay on her table.

Catherine’s knowledge is extensive and she shares the science behind clean beauty throughout each treatment so each client leaves glowing and informed. When asked to explain what clean beauty means for Holiday, Catherine explains she prioritizes “avoiding conventional ingredients that cause subclinical inflammation, that’s inflammation at the layer of skin where your cells are made.” She has poured a lot of time and energy into curating brands that align with her integrity as a business owner and have proven effective throughout her years of experience.
When speaking about her recent switch to beeswax-free Mermaid Wax, Catherine began to tear up. She reflected upon how amazing it is that Austin-based Mermaid Wax are making products like high-quality synthetic wax accessible to micro businesses like Holiday. Typically these products are cost prohibitive, which is why wax with beeswax is more common. All products used and sold at Holiday are now nut-free, animal-free, and vegan-friendly.
Along with standard waxing services and skin treatments Holiday offers experiences you won’t find at just any spa. Ever heard of a Vajacial? How about a Bumcial? Perhaps you’re looking for energy work and want to try a Reiki session combined with a soothing face mask or a smoke cleanse. Holiday’s services draw upon Catherine’s studies of Chinese Medicine, Reiki, and Ayurveda and she acknowledges the cultural roots of each modality through educational materials on her website and welcomes questions from those curious to learn more. Catherine believes discussing her continuing education and making referrals to credible teachers whose culture and identities align with the roots of each practice are are crucial. Since her first exposure to reiki from a fellow therapist Catherine has been committed to deepening her own practices through an education-centered approach.

As a small business that relies on face-to-face contact Holiday has been deeply affected by the ever changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. Holiday services are all offered in a clean and spacious private treatment room in a quiet building. In addition to visiting as a client you can support the business by recommending Holiday to people in your network, leaving a review, or purchasing skin care products from Holiday’s website.
